This marble features a body of slime green, a dichro section, and lots of dotstacking and pinwheeling. The whole piece had been sandcarved with a variety of images. I was not able to capture the design on the green section well but you can see it much better in person. The orange dots, the yellow dots, and the dichro section are all UV so this piece really lights up under a blacklight.
These sandcarved pieces are made utilizing an extremely time consuming multi-step process. I first create the piece on the torch and anneal it in a digitally controlled kiln. I then clean the piece with acetone, lay out a series of images on a layout program, cut those images on a vinyl plotter, apply them to the the piece, sandblast the piece, soak them in acetone to remove the decals, clean them, and oil them.
